Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club Lost by 12 runs
Match report
Before the match there were multiple ins then outs then ins for D&C as various factors affected the line up.
Leitch was in the original Xl but then dropped out for president Martin Honeyford - who could now play - but unfortunately influential batsman and bowler Justin Taylor had to pull out an hour before the game due to unforeseen circumstances which left Leitch back in the line up.
The wicket looked a bit ropey after a lot of rain the night before - there was a massive wet area just short of a length.
Despite wanting to win the toss and bat first we won the toss and bolwed due to the uncertainty in the pitch.
After the toss the Broomhall skipper informed the D&C skipper they only had 9 players - if we had known this as we should have technically pre toss then we would probably have batted. As it turned out in the field Broohall ended up with 10 as David Lucas filled a slot.
Broomhall started well getting away to the 20s quite quickly with Hoefling and Millar at the crease.
D&C whose fielding and catching this season has been awful - soon dropped not one but two - Forster missed a caught behind off Honeyford Jnr and Coops did likewise not long after. Wood made no mistake catching Millar of James Honeyfords bowling for 10. Hutton then trapped Hoefling caught well by Laing at Midon.
Danny Glasgow and Scott Lucas rebuilt the innings - and there were more drops again from Forster and again from Cooper as well as a caught and bowled from James Honeyford.
Dylan Wood bowling excellently again this week picked up a wicket of Danny Glasgow with probably his worst ball of the day - full toss - bowled for 16. There were two additional drops in that over - one by Alan Leitch of Scot Lucas which proved to be costly as Scott didnt get dismissed for another 37 runs when Vasu Reddy fooled him into edging behind for 30.
Brand was batting well and got some support - not by Kahlon though who was caught behind first ball. Breen added 3 and Robertson 2 as Brand raced to 48 before being caught in the deep by Hutton in the final over off the bowling of James Honeyford.
We had miscalculated the overs as the plan was for Vasu to bowl the last - but this wasnt to be and 12 went off it.
Broomhall finished on what appeared a good score on a poorish wicket. 143.
144 to Win - Miller was promoted back up to open with Martin Honeyford - but neither made an impact - Miller caught well by Scott Lucas for 0 of the third ball - then Martin playing all around a straight ball from Scott Lucas.
Wood followed for a duck.
Reddy and Laing were now trying to rebuild but Vasu tried to smash one past Hoefling who brilliantly parried the ball in the air before catching it.
Laing then fell to a Hoelfling delivery playing it arial to the 45 - caught Brand for 4.
Murray survived a close LBW appeal from Lucas with the ball just hitting him outside the line of off stump before smashing a 2,4,4,6 off the over - but then was caught similar to Laing for 17 of the bowling of Hoefling - who finshed his 8 overs spell for 10 runs - 4 wickets. Putting Broomhall in the driving seat.
Cooper came and went edging behind for 2.
Hutton and Leitch then started to rebuild picking up 1s and 2s. The pair took the score from in the 50s to 110 before some confusion saw Leitch run out.
Forster then came out and looked solid smashing a 4 while Hutton looked dominant - if this pair could have stayed together we would have won - but again confusion - a stroke to the boundary - Hutton wanted 2 Forster 1 - Hutton run out for 39. An excellent inning - but 123 for 9 the score.
James Honeyford came out and looked assured and as Broomhall were running low on bowling options it could go either way. Unfortunately it wasnt to be. A long hop from Lucas was helped round the corner by Honeyford but straight into the hands of Breen who took an excellent low catch to win the game.
Well played to Broomhall - but also well played Hutton, Leitch and Forster - as the tail wagged we almost pulled off the impossible. The top order failed to see of the main threat which lost this game with the bat.
However we didnt only lose this game with the bat - we were poor in the field - 8 DROPS - which is unacceptable and costly and probably gave Broomhall 40 extra runs which won them the game. Two granted were near impossible catches - Honeyford snr a diving effort as he got both hands to it - and Miller a diving one handed slip effort which palmed up in the air but he couldnt recover to complete. The others were more simple.
Anyway now need to rebuild for the Hawick game - in two weeks time. No game next week - but the next two games will define whether we have the chance to win or come second in the league - Hawick have now solidified their place in 3rd place who we play on the 27th July while Melrose who we play on the 3rd of August had their game rained off which has left them way out on top.
Next week we will be backing Broomhall to beat Hawick, Peebles to beat EUS and Watsonians to find their winning ways against Melrose.
