Match report D&C went into this game against Drummond Trinity 2's in second place after the disappointing final over loss to league leaders EUS last weekend - by a measly 2 runs.

This was the first game of the second half of the season and it looked in the morning that we would struggle to get a game in with a dodgy weather forecast after 5 lovely days during the week.

D&C probably had their strongest squad of the season available - batting all the way down to 11. So when Bruce lost the toss and was asked to bat he was delighted as that what he had planned anyway.

D&C opened with the Martin Honeyford and Dylan Wood who have been starting to gel a bit - apart from the run out last weekend. D&C got off to a steady but slow start on a pitch that was being used for the 4th time. The pitch was playing low and slow with variable bounce and the odd shooter.

D&C got to 47 in the 17th over when Dylan who had played a fine array of shots was bowled by Amir for 19. Vasu then joined Martin they put on another 66 runs before Martin started to try and accelarate the scoring and was bowled for 34.

Justin Taylor was next in with the score 113 for 2 in the 30th over. A long way still to go to get a par score - although with the long boundary today it was proving difficult for the batsman to hit boundaries as regularly as they had in previous weeks. Vasu didnt manage any 6s this week - and even had to run an all run 4 with Martin with the assistance of an overthrow.

Justin and Vasu both got out at the tail end of the 34th over with the score on 140. Both caught in the deep of the bowling of Yadav.

Murray Callan and David Miller were now in at 5 and 6 and both thrown in at the deep end on a hard to score wicket with 5 overs left. Murray tried to play his normal elegant shots for 6 but was failing to make contact today - and when he did make contact the ball was bouncing before it crossed the boundary - Miller likewise was finding it difficult to slog against some accurate bowling on a two paced wicket. However the pair did well to put on an addition 38 runs in their 5 overs at the crease which at the end of the day would prove vital.

The wicket didnt offer much for the bowlers and there were rarely any threat on the batters. There were a few LBW appeals - but not one of note was near the stumps - and possibly only one drop catch late on. DT bowled well and tightly - limiting the loose balls.

The downpour arrived at the tea interval - so the covers were put on.

The rain did stop after tea - allowing play to resume.

DT decided to play the game like a 20/20 as there was little chance of getting a full game in now the weather had turned.

Riaz and Tummala (dropped from their 1s) opened the batting and went after the young bowling attack of Hutton and James Honeyford.

John Hutton was unlucky not to have Tummala caught in the covers as safe hands Bruce put him down early on - which was to prove expensive as the batters smashed 40 of 4 overs putting DT well on top in the run rate for the rain calculator.

After 4 overs Bruce had to change it up. Experienced pairing of Reddy and Cooper came on.

Cooper thought he had Tummala caught behind when a thin edge was dropped by Harris behind the stumps in what was a very sharp chance.

Reddy then had a couple of LBW appeals turned down against Riaz.

The run rate had slowed right down - as Reddy bowled a very straight one at Riaz. The huge LBW appeal was turned down - as every one appealed the batters nipped through for a quick single - fortunately Justin Taylor was on the ball and his throw left the dangerous Tummala high and dry - out for 29.

Reddy then got rid of Riaz bowled and then took a catch of his own bowling to dispatch Mazhar.

Martin Honeyford replaced Cooper and bowled tightly. Honeyford thought he had a wicket when the batter middled the ball to first slip but Miller was too close and before he had the chance to react the ball had hit him in the stomach.

Shortly after Miller took a slow motion slip catch off Honeyford as Jamal edged the ball - the batter didnt walk - but then he realised he had too. Unsure why he didnt walk as it was a obvious clear catch.

Things were now interesting as we knew from rough calculations we had to have DT at around 80 for 4 to be ahead at 20 overs. They were 85 for 4 and presumably marginally ahead.

The 4th ball of the over turned the match as with the rain starting to loom - Ashraf had a big play and miss at Honeyford and was bowled for 4. The next DT batsman didnt want to come out as it had started to rain lightly - but he did have to come out. And see of the end of the over.

We knew we were now on top. Taylor came on to replace Vasu who had bowled out - then Martin only managed to bowl 5 balls of his forth over as the heavens opened.

Covers were put back on and the rain wasnt for moving. Quick check of the rain calculator and as thought we were ahead. We also had to check the rules - and we had passed the 6.50 curfew. So if the rain had stopped there was no chance of getting a completed game in - in the next half hour as the rules stated so both captains had to shake hands.

It was a shame for DT who had batted accordingly to the conditions to get to the 20 over mark that 5th wicket from Martin proving to be the match winner. The game was more likely to have fallen easily to Dunfermline had we been able to get a full 40 overs in as the majority of the DT top order was out - but DT had down well playing a 20/20 style game to make it close. Tummala particulary had hit some excellent shots.

We probably scored 40 runs short of par - were probably a bit too slow at the outset and picked up the pace too late leaving our middle order not enough overs to accelarate. The large boundaries also probably shaved some runs of the scores.

Anyway we got the win which was important - Skipper Bruce now misses a few games due to holidays and weddings leaving brother Murray in charge. Next up a trip to face Watsonians.
