Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club Lost by 2 runs

Match report D&C lost to EUS - in a Dejavu moment. Having lost the last game of last season to EUS by 1 run - today we lost by 2 runs. Last season we needed 5 to win of the last season - this season 3 - and again we failed.

EUS batted well - although we spilled a couple of chances - one normally safe Bruce Callan dropped the other Brown got his hands to as it seemed to loop over his head.

Sevak again was the thorne in our side scoring 47 before Bruce bowled him with a slower ball.

EUS finished with 188 for 5. James Honeyford actually the pick of the bowlers as no one else really got into a good rythm. We should have had an extra wicket with a run out - with a direct hit but despite the batter being short the umpire who had the best view gave not out.

After talking about batting the overs and batting sensibly - we lost our first wicket for 2 runs when Dylan called Martin for a quick single - but Martin didnt start until it was too late and he was run out for 0.

Justin went in and steadied the ship before Dylan plopped one up to Mid on for 8.

Justin was given out when EUS had an over exaggerated appear for LBW.

Miller came in and looked to rebuild with Vasu - the pair put on 40 before Miller tried to hit a lose ball down leg for 4 - but with the variable bounce a cross bat shot caught the edge and spooned up to fine leg.

Abby came and looked rusty on debut - he hasnt played in a few years - but did look to play a couple of good shots but was then bowled by Raza.

Bruce played a captains innings playing straight and sensibly supporting Vasu. We got so close to the finishing line when Vasu played a full toss onto his stumps for 98.

Hutton then came in hit 5 and got out caught on the boundary going for the win in one shot.

Last over - Sevak again - two bowled well down leg the others well outside off - and Bruce unfortunately couldnt make contact - and no runs were scored.

Lessons to be learned again:

EUS run well between the wickets picking up valuable runs - probably boosted their score by 30.
We ran poorly - probably dropping 20 to 30 of what we should have scored. Given the gaps in the field we didnt pick the runs well.

We dropped catches again - but today they probably werent as costly. EUS dropped Vasu early on and Vasu made full use of that life - he was also dropped later on but if the guy had actually caught it he would probably have broken every bone in his hand given the power Vasu put in it.
Hindsight is a great thing so many things we should have done differently - but we need to build on this and learn for the remainder of the season.

Credit to EUS - they kept going even when the game started to look lost - and they won it from the jaws of defeat.

Half we through the season now - we are 3rd - report card reads must do better.
