Peebles v Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 15 Jun 2019 at 13.00
Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets
Match report
What should have been an easy win - turned into a very difficult win in the end.
D&C did the job almost perfectly with the ball bowling out Peebles for 98 - with Vasu picking up 5, Justin 2, James 1, Bruce 1 and Martin 1. Jack Miller bowled brilliantly at pace but was unfortunate not to pick up any wickets.
Batitng has been our downfall too often - but surely chasing under 100 shouldnt be a problem?
Well it was - our batters player a lot of wreckless shots with the exception of Dylan who was unlucky with a brilliant caught and bowled and Vasa and David Miller who ended up not out. Peebles skipper and by far their best bowler bowled his 8 overs straight picking up 4 wickets with our batsman - trying to hit him around the park instead of giving him the respect he deserved. Had we batted sensibly we would have likely won by 7 or 8 wickets - but we didnt bat in pairs.
Dylan got out after playing an excellent pull for 4 - then next he played a crashing drive upwards back at the bowler whose great reactions took the catch. Martin then fell only the next over when we should have been consolidating having lost a wicket lobbing the ball up to point. Vasu and Murray our key batters were now in very early. Vasu looked and batted solid - but Murray looking good smashed an early six but then tried to smash D Voas and just lobbed it up in the air.
Taylor then looked good before trying to scoop a shortish ball - straight up and out. Gareth Coles was unlucky as he was hit in the sore bit between the legs and given LBW - Bruce then played a swish across the line whilst looking good playing straight and was bowled for 4. Miller came in - and Vasu smashed the change bowlers around the park - after respecting the better bowling - and won the game for Dunfermline with 19.5 overs to spare.
It was fitting that Vasu hit the winning runs for 6 to give himself 70 runs - on top of the 5 wickets he took earlier.
We will have to bat a lot better if we have any chance of beating EUS in a top of table clash at Mckane next weekend.
