Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club 1st XI v Broomhall on Sat 11 Aug 2018 at 13.00
Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club Lost 73 runs

Match report Dunfermline & Carnegie hosted Broomhall in what is a meaningless end of season game with only local kudos up for grabs.

The home side included 4 under 15 players and 1 under 18 as they look towards giving the more junior players some experience in the hope they can step up to this level next season - while Broomhall were looking a very strong line up which included 3 ex Dunfermline Knights players from the old youth setup. Brian Brown was a late replacement for James Spreng which was a blow to Dunfermlines batting potential.

D&C won the toss and chose to field.

Hutton and Honeyford opened the bowling with Danny Glasgow and Chris Hoefling opening the batting for Broomhall.

Honeyford drew first blood bowling Glasgow for 3. Scott Lucas came to the crease and looked confident - but was beaten by a Honeyford wobbler bowled for 4.

A good start for D&C - but Hoefling went offensive and scored at a fast rate.

Next wicket was Hynd caught Hutton bowled Martin Honeyford for 5. Gudgin came to the crease and looked menacing from the off.

David Cooper managed to take the wicket of Chris Hoefling in bizarre fashion. With his very first ball Martin Honeyford dropped Hoeffling at slip. Second ball Hoefling was dropped by James Honeyford at cover - third ball finally Wajahat looked composed as he took the catch. Chris

Timmins joined Gudgin and looked to attack from the off - however he skied one miles up in the air of Bruce Callan - and Bruce looked confident in catching the lofted ball.

Doherty joined Gudgin - Gudgin was dipstaching the ball all over the ground at this statge and put on a 72 stand with Doherty before Doherty was caught by Faisal of Huttons bowling for 6.

Gudgin finally went caught James Honeyford of the bowling of Hutton for an excellent 77.

Millar and James ended up 14 and 8 not out respectively.

On a good track Broomhall scored what was probably a par score - with an excellent batting display from both Hoefling and Gudgin. Star bowlers were J Honeyford with 2 wickets for 16 runs while John Hutton also picked up 2 for 25 off 8 overs.

The target although not high for a Mckane score looked ominous given the lack of batting and experience in our line up this week. The team were given the instruction however to try bat 40 overs which they duely did but ended up 73 runs short.

Martin Honeyford and Dylan Wood opened the batting - this Dylan's first experience of opening at this level. The senior batsman Honeyford went first caught and bowled for 4 off Hoefling.

Another youngster Wajahat Faisal came in at 3 but was caught for 1 off Doherty's tight bowling.

MIller and Wood batted together for a while - before Wood was caught by a brotherly pairing - bowled Thomas Lucas caught Scott Lucas. Dylan had batted a good number off overs for 12 - and rarely looked in any trouble - and was unlucky not to score more picking out fielders with some decent shots.

Miller was joined by Murray Callan. with the score at 35 for 3. Miller was struggling with an upset stomach but both batsman started to score freely.

At drinks Miler considered retiring with pain - but battled on. With the score on 78 Murray Callan was bowled by Timmins for 26. Miller followed shortly after chasing a delivery from the ever steady Scott Lucas being caught at fly slippish for 30.

Bruce Callan was dismissed for 0 as was Naman Sharma. Cooper was run out for 7 with Dunfermline in self destruct mode.

Hutton and Brown restored some calm - with neither looking in any danger and Hutton playing a fine array of strokes. Hutton ended up 27 not out - Brown 4 not out.

There were a lot of positives from this game. Experience was given to the younger players - we still need to field better - and take our chances - the two drops of Hoefling could have been very costly but fortunately weren't. There were other drops also which were expensive. Young James Honeyford bowled excellently picking up two wickets as did John Hutton. There were promising signs also in the bowling of Wajahat and Naman - with both players having a lot of promise. With the bat Dylan looked accomplished - and just needs to start piercing the field with some of his fine shots so that he gets the score he deserves. Batting the 40 overs as planned was also a good accomplishment.

Broomhalls bowlers only have away 2 wides in the whole innings and bowled tightly - with ex Dunfermline players Scott Lucas and David Timmins being the key men with the ball both picking up important wickets.

Broomhall are a good unit - and this will have given the youngsters something to aspire to - despite a relatively easy win for Broomhall we can see where we need to improve - both with bat and ball.

Broomhall have leap-frogged Dunfermline in the league table both teams with 6 wins but with Broomhall achieving 7 points more than Dunfermline in their 13 games.
