Match report Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club 1st XI 51 for 10 lost to Melrose 138 for 10

D&C with minimal chance of promotion this year now - have decided to bleed a young team for the remainder of the season - first up was a visit to Melrose with 4 under 15's in the lineup.

On a green looking wicket D&C elected to bowl first.

James Honeyford and Dylan Wood opened the attack and bowled well - but the two youngsters never got any luck with balls in the air just missing fielders.

They were replaced by two more U15's Naman Sharma and Wajahat Faisal in the bowling attack.

Naman struck first getting Fausset caught at point by Faisal for 14. Waj then got in on the act bowling Hosney for 9 - next ball got Williams caught for 0 - then the hattrick ball at Scott - it hit the pads on route to middle stump and the umpire took an age but finally gave the right decision - to give Waj a deserved hattrick. But Wajahat wasnt finished - Milne edged the next ball to Martin at first slip for 4 wickets in 4 balls.

Sharma got another wicket with the other opener.

We were now in with a chance of bowling Melrose out for a very low score. However Melrose skipper Loftus went offensive and just hit out - scoring a quick 39 and while Waj picked up his 5th wicket - King added 25 trying to hit everything. Bruce picked up two wickets and Jagdeep 1 as Melrose were bowled out for 138.

This was an excellent bowling performance - with the highlight being Wajahats 4 wickets in a row. However the wicket was looking worse than it was at the start of the day.

The D&C innings started badly and with only resistance in the lower order we were bowled out for 51. Most wickets were caught with our batsman struggling to play the ball with it not coming onto the back as well as was expected..

In hingsight this was a wicket to bat first on - and play shots on - as the players who scored well today were players who didnt hold back on their shots. You could tell Melrose knew how to bat and bowl on this pitch - and it offered a home advantage. Although we should credit the Melrose bowlers who bowled well - and also their fielders who took every catch. Our batting could only be described as abysmal.

The hospitality was great - the weather was nice - we bowled well - dropped a few costly chances - so there were some positives minus the drops and the batting.

MOM surely easy today - Wajahat with 5 wickets - 3 catches and 10 runs.

The young guns now go on to face Broomhall in a local derby next week - when we will have 5 Under 18's in the line up with John Hutton returning from holiday.
