Watsonians 3 v Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 21 Jul 2018 at 13.00
Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club Lost by 73 runs
Match report
Anotther week another struggle to get two competitive sides out - but on the positive we managed.
Lost the toss and Watsonians chose to bat first on a track that looked like it would deteriorate as the day went on.
Watsons showed some strength and depth in their lineup with a couple of players stepping down from their second team for this match.
Things started well for Dunfermline with 3 early wickets of 3 key batsman. Ahmad Anwar bowled Fontana with a peach for 8 runs - then following up with the prize scalp of Mawdley who scored 9. Unfortunately Ahmad hurt his back and could only manage 4 overs. Martin Honeyford took over and took a wicket caught by his son James. Ewan Robertson batting at 4 held firm though - and although Jaggy and Niall Walker took a single wicket each Watsons progressed into the 200's.
The innings closed with the scoreboard showing 228 for 5. (we later learned that this was actually only 214)
Spreng and Honeyford opened - Spreng fell and so did wickets quite steadily on a track that was getting more difficult to bat on with the odd ball lifting oddly.
Honeyford fell for 37 while Bruce, Matt and Naman showed some resistance we were eventually bowled out for 141 in 31 overs.
On another day we would have won this game. It was unfortunate we lost Ahmads bowling so early on. We thought we were chasing a higher score than we really were as a result of some scoring miscalculations which affected the mindset. The boundaries were small so 200 plus should have been achievable but I think batting second on a tiring wicket cost us in the end.
Promotion scores severelty dented with this result. Now we must try and defeat the league leaders in the next match at Mckane.
