Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club 1st XI v Linlithgow 2 on Sat 30 Jun 2018 at 13.00
Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club Won 6 wickets

Match report Dunfermline Carnegie were missing a few key players for the potential banana skin match against bottom of the league Linlithgow.

On another glorious day skipper Miller won the toss and elected to bowl first.

This seemed a good option as Linlthgow were quickly 2 wickets down with John Hutton claiming the scalp of Thomson for 2 LBW - and then James Honeyford the scalp of Whitmarsh for 1 LBW.

Gurr was then run out as a catch went a begging. Honeyford bowled - Gurr lost the ball as it lobbed up in the air - with James Honeyford and Matt Jones both watching the ball - it landed in between them - when either could have taken a simple catch. Jones reacted quickly to the loose ball though with Gurr out his ground running him out for 10.

Kilmister joined the Linlihtgow skipper Smith in the middle but didnt put up much of a fight as Jaggy Singh got him caught behind by Jones for 1.

19 for 4 and things were looking good.

The resistance now started with Sneddon joining Smith and they fought some excellent bowling to put on a bit of a partnership.

Singh and Callen (B) bowled tight spells - Cooper came into the attach just around drinks and couldnt quite get a rhythm going - being dispatched for 34 in his 4 overs.

John Hutton as brought back into the attack to try and make a breakthrough with his raw pace - and he quickly did - bowling Sneddon for 41. The score had now gone to 88 for 5.

Hutton picked up another scalp - Graham caught by Jones for 0. Martin Honeyford into the attack quickly disposed of the dangerous Smith caught Hutton for 46.

Bruce then claimed a scalp Graham caught Miller for 5.0

Miller then ran out Silk for 5 and finally James Honeyford picked up his second wicket of the day clean bowling White for 0.

Linlithgow closed up on 134 all out with dead on 40 overs bowled.

This should have been a much lower score but some loose bowling allowed Linlithgow back into the game when it looked lost early on.
In the first game of the season Dunfermline only mustered 112 runs so this game was not over yet by any means.

To the chase..

With Spreng out this week - Jones and Honeyford Snr opened. Honeyford played all around a straight ball early on and was bowled for 6 with the score on 19.

Miller joined Jones and both played some excellent shots as the score quickly raced to 43 before Jones was caught and bowled by Graham for 22.

Muzz came in and hit 2 fours and a six before being caught on the boundary for a speedy 14 while Miller had managed to surpass 50 hitting 10 fours on the way.

Murray's wicket fell with the score on 100 and with Linlithgow sensing the game was lost they tried to change up the bowling - this appeared to be successful as Miller got caught for 52.

Singh and Bruce Callan were now at the crease. A lot of wides and no balls now were being bowled - Singh took full advantage rapidly scoring 21 while Callan desperately wanted to get on strike to get out the duck pond.

The win came with a wide ball with Dunfermline and Carnegie chasing down the total in only 16.3 overs.

This was an easy win at the end of the day - with plenty batting still in the locker room. A loose spell of bowling allowed Linlithgow to make a competitive score. But on a good wicket and fast outfield this score was easily chased down.

Thanks to the Match Ball Sponsors - Claire, Andrew and Elspeth Miller.
