Broomhall v Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 09 Jun 2018 at 13.00
Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club Won 3 wickets

Match report Dunfermline and Carnegie headed down to Broomhall for a local derby minus last weeks hero Murray Callan and also key bowlers Billy Strange and Warren McInnes.
Richard Cox and Brian Brown answered an SOS to play while James Spreng also slotted back in.

Dunfermline & Carnegie won the toss and elected to bowl first - on what seemed a glorious summers day. Broomhalls outfield had been cut short and with short boundaries and the use of an artifical wicket opposed to a turf wicket runs were likely to be easy to come by unless the bowling was tight.

Dunfermline opened up two juniors - with a combined age of 29. John Hutton from the tree end and James Honeyford from the Pavillion end.

The first three overs were tight - with Huttons pace too much for Hoeffling and Glasgow - while Honeyford was bowling in a nice zone.

In the 4th over Honeyford went to glance a ball down leg side from James Honeyford - missed it altogether and his stumps fell over - for 1 run.

Scott Lucas came out and him and Glasgow went on the offensive - Lucas was dropped a couple of times - once by Cox at Mid off and I cant remember who else by. Broom hall flew past 50 by 10 overs but then Bruce Callan in his first over clean bowled Lucas for a well worked 27.

Millar then joined Glasgow in the middle and continued where Lucas had left off. The 100 came up in the 15th over.

Brown had a 2 over bowling spell but couldnt get a rhythm - either could Cox who also bowled 2. Marting Honeyford came on to tighten up at the trees end while Cooper took control from the pavillion end.
Dunfermline and Carnegie were spilling chances galore but finally got the 3rd wicket in the 17th over when Millar tried to smack Honeyford over the top of Mid On - but Cooper stood strong and took the catch at the second attempt. Millar gone for 22.

Broomhall captain Docherty came out and was lucky not to be caught early on but finally was caught by Martin Honeyford at Gulley off Cooper for 13. Hynd came in and the runs were not finally starting to slow down.
In the urgency to speed things up Glasgow was run out trying to steel a run to Honeyford who through the ball to Cooper who finished the job.

Khan then took the wicket of Hynd who had batted well for 27 when a four bound shot was acrobatically plucked out the air one handed by Miller at Midon - as he fell to the ground he held firm to the ball.

James Honeyford and Hutton bowled the death overs with Honeyford claiming the wicket of Chalmers for 16 caught Callan.

The not out batsmen were Chalmers 17 and T Lucas 11.

Dunfermline and Carnegie fielded the majority of the overs with 10 men as Brian Brown went off the field with suspected concussion - take to the hospital by Andy Callen.

Broomhall finished on 224 for 6 - but this looked like being far more when they were flying with 130 of 20. They only added 50 runs in the last 10 overs - so we did excellently to claw it back.

Tea was had. And it was going to be challenging to chase this target down - especially missing big hitter Murray Callan.

Martin Honeyford and Spreng opened for Dunfermline.
Honeyford showed his intent smashing a 6 in the first over.

Miller and S Lucas opened the bowling for Broomhall - but posed no trouble early on.
There was a half hearted appeal for a caught behind of Honeyford but this was not given by the umpire in what was the only shout until the 17th over when Honeyford was adjudged LBW of the bowling of Docherty for a agressive 41.

Spreng was joined by Cox - who batted some valuable time before being bowled by Docherty for 2.

Skipper Miller then joined Spreng with the score on 89 for 2.

Both batsmen looked to accelarate with Miller scoring 15 quickly before being caught behind trying to hit the ball down the ground off Scott Lucas.
A quick 29 partnership which was what was required as Dunfermline were slightly behind the run rate with the rain now starting to fall.

Super Cooper then joined Spreng -Spreng then finally held out after a great knock for 48 off the bowling of T Lucas caught Docherty.

Cooper wasnt messing around smashed 4 fours before being caught trying to smash the ball out the ground with Miller taking the catch again of the bowling of T Lucas.

Bruce Callen was now at the crease with Matt Jones - with a lot of work still to be do 63 runs still required and time running out.

Both batters scored quickly though before Bruce was bowled by T Lucas for 18.

Score now 181 for 6.

The rain was bucketing down and quick action required.
Hutton off the 5 balls he faced scored a smashing four a huge 6 then a 2 and a 1 before being bowled by Lucas for 13.

This had Dunfermline ahead on run rate - as the rain poured. 203 for 7 with 4 overs to go. Less than a run a ball would now do.

Khan joined Jones - And both batsmen looked comforable knocking the now wet/slippy ball around Jones smashing a great 4 down the ground and Sazz a lofty 6 down leg side.

It was apt that Matt Jones finished the job with 8 balls to spare hitting the ball for 2 for Dunfermline to win by 3 wickets.

This was an epic team performance.

224 may not be a big score on a small ground (probably circa 175 at Mckane) but from Broomhall having perfect batting conditions to Dunfermline having to bat with a sodden outfield and dark conditions and driving rain it was a great performance from all to see this through.

Bowling and fielding wise there is a lot to improve upon as probably 6 easy chances went down - which should have restricted Broomhall to well under 200 but we this is something that needs worked on.
Hutton bowled with great pace - and although never took a wicket never went for many runs.
James Honeyford for a 13 year old took two key wickets and one bad over cost his figures a bit but again an excellent two spells of bowling - especially the one at the death.
Honeyford and Sazz bowled tightly - and it was the Cooper/Martin Honeyford bowling spell in tandem that pulled us back into the mix. Bruce bowled well until his 5th over went haywire - but picked up a key wicket.
Fielding as said before was sloppy - Broomhall put as to shame with some excellent fielding where we probably gave them 30 in the field.

Batting wise we worked in pairs with partnerships of 74, 15, 29, 20, 23, 20, 22.....which was excellent - and shows a good team perfomance.
For Broomhall Docherty was the pick of thier bowlers picking up 2 wickets for only 17 runs in 8 overs. Hoefling went for 34 without a wicket. While the Lucas brothers went for 121 runs between them in 16 overs - despite Scott picking up 5 wickets - the economy rate of 66 runs in eight overs will give him something to work on.

To sum this up:
A Beautiful day fielding = Poor feilding and lots of runs
Horrible day Batting = Best batting performance of the season

And the president went home happy!!
