Match report The wierdest game ever....

We bowled first after losing the toss.
Bowled loosely - gave too many easy runs although the track was excellent in the first innings.
Lake opening for Ed uni looked plumb LBW on 3 occassions but the umpire who chose to do both ends for around 30 overs gave nothing.
Only when there was a change of umpire was Lake given LBW.
Daughtrey was the pick of the bowlers picking up 3 wickets.
D&C took just over 3 hours to bowl the overs due to the light rain that we had and the constant drying of the ball.

Out with the bat....

Beg lost his wicket early for 8.

Miller and Spreng restored parity on what was still a good track. Spreng surviving an LBW and a catch appeal off one ball...

Miller finally succumbed for 33 when one from Lake kept low and bowled him.


Shortly after this the heavens opened. No play looked likely for a while as we left the field of play.

However it the rain did clear but now the lovely batting track had turned into a soggy pitch and the outfield was sodden.
Edinburgh Uni had already bowled multiple beamers and there was now fear for our players safety.

D&C wanted to wait until the pitch and outfield dried up a bit but were then put under intense pressure from EUS to resume. Duckworth Lewis was in D&C favour. This was when EUS decided to inform D&C that they only had the pitch til 6.30.

At this point we didnt know whether that meant they would get chucked off at that time or if they would be lenient and allow the game to continue.
If it were the first we would never have agreed to go back out and play as it was evident there wasnt enough time to complete the game. We however made an error in going back out to play - on a slippy track with a soaking wet ball.

The innings restarted and there was another 6 beamers bowled.....
Bruce Callan carried on the fight - with 19 - Spreng went for 52 in the end caught out.

At 35 overs with EUS in the driving seat - but not a certainty of winning the groundstaff started clearing the pitch - and EUS walked off the pitch.

Noone from EUS spoke to D&C - and discussed what the outcome would be - everyone was more concerned about making sure they got their car out the car park as we were told this "may" get locked.

Anyway - we learned lessons from this game...
We now need to assertain when the opposition has the pitch booked until - at the toss we knew it was likely to be a rain affected game due to the forecast - but assumed we could play into the evening...If the EUS captain had said we need to be off the pitch by 6.30 - a we would have been willing to come through early and start at 12 and b we would have reduced the overs to give the game a chance of completing.

The second mistake was we should have not gone back out at 20 overs - it was clear there was no chance of completing a game when we just found out that we were to be booted off the pitch - so we should have left as we had the advantage and the pitch and outfield were not fit for play.

We learn by our mistakes - but hope the league find in our favour as we should never have been put in this situation.
