Match report With all the off field issues resolved midweek it was time to get down to action in the season opener.

Losing skipper Wayne Sullivan to Falkland a week earlier was always going to be a massive loss and also the loss of a couple of regulars meant D&C were always on the back foot for this match.

David Miller took interim charge for the day - and looked to have a semi decent line up out perhaps however light on the bowling department.

Miller lost the toss and D&C were asked to bat.

Martin Honeyford and James Spreng opened. Martin and James looked solid - with the no threat of wickets for the opposition until Spreng was bowled for 6 in the 9th over. The score was 15 for 1.

Miller joined Honeyford and the scoreboard slowly ticked along. By over 18 D&C were trying to speed up the scoring however in this Honeyford lost his wicket giving an easy catch to Storey of the bowling of Hair.

Murray Callan came into bat - just when we were expecting a masterclass of hitting from young Murray - he managed to miss time a six shot and skied it in the air for an easy catch for the keeper. First entry into the duck pond for the season.

Simon Forster came out and looked solid - but just when he looked in the swing of things he tried to despatch Alexander for 4 but could only lob the ball in the air for an easy catch - gone for 2.

Miller and Daughtrey looked about restoring some pride with the score at 49 for 4 off 21 overs - a very slow rate.

They managed to add 28 runs in 5 overs before Miller was desptached bowled of an inswinger off Alexander for 28 - shortly after receiving a sore blow to his chest/ribcage of a eccentric bounce off the wicket.

Bruce Callan came in and was in fine form knocking the ball about.

Barney soon went bolwed by Alexander for 13.

Goody arrived - and went after scoring 2.

Sazz Khan came in added 3 to the score before leaving Ct by Storey of Alexander.

Bruce Callan succumbed to the ebowling of R Alexander also for 16.

Dylan Wood and James Honeyford were at the crease. Dylan managed to get a single before James was left stranded on 0. Despite hitting the last ball James refused to try and get out of the duck pond and young Dylan was left high and dry and run out.

Total of 40 overs was 108

This was never going to be enought.

New President Kevin Ross and Bryan Keenan produced the tea of the century with a fine BBQ mixed with sandwiches.

Hawick got their underway in steady fashion.

Young Dylan Wood did bowl G Alexander for 8 which was an excellent start.

However Hawick were finding the pace of Bruce Callan to their liking - and never looked in much trouble til Sazz Khan dimissed Hair caught by keeper Daughtrey for 30.

There were no more scares for Hawick as they managed to dance over the finish line in the 26th over.

Dissapointing start to the season - but there is plenty room for improvement. We batted too patiently - and all to often didnt punish the bad ball with the bat - and left ourself's an uphill battle despite a solid batting line up.

We were always up against it bowling wise - and hadnt enough runs to defend to put up any real challenge.

Next Week Grange 3's where we can hope to put things right!!!
