Tranent 2 v Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 30 Apr 2016 at 13.00
Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club Lost 47 runs

Match report Here we go again… Season 2016

So the day after the land is covered in snow, we embark upon another cricketing season and the first journey took us to Tranent in ESCA Div 7.

With a depleted team to begin with due to some primma donna/big girls blouse not able to play for the 1s, we have to suck it up and take one for the team/club.

So in slightly better conditions than expected we lost the toss and were stuck in the field to start the game, a tidy start from Pike and Fred so a tentative start from Tranent and it took the introduction of Cheryl Cole into the attack, before the batsmen were able to take a few more risks due to the extra freedom Cheryl allowed them to.

As Sazz mentioned to me after the first of Cheryl’s 3 wickets P**h gets wickets lol

A very tidy spell from Sazz kept them under control to about 82-2 off of 18. An early break was necessitated by Goody suffering a dislocated finger, so we were down to 9, albeit Tranent kindly lent us a sub fielder.

A typical Aussie appeared at the crease and quickly took the game away from us, not before Chairman chocolate injured himself and being shot by a ginger activist in the trees, Goody therefore got someone to pop his finger back in so we were back to 9 as the chairman was only left to grumble for the rest of the match at how we had missed out on a guaranteed fifty after his post season work outs with Wayne.

Both Cammy and Diet Pike bowled well as did Fred when he returned for his second spell, more than can be said for Warnie Daughtrey, who helped the aussie with the delivery of numerous tasty “pies” for him to knock out the park.

So chasing 220, Barney and Pike headed out to start the chase. Barney promptly struck a lofty six back over the head of the bowler for the shot of the match.

Pike was out quickly after, there is an FBI investigation into how and why he was triggered, so I am currently unable to comment further on this matter. This saw the entrance of the skipper, who promptly edged two of his first three balls, but Tranent took pity on him and didn’t bother trying to catch them.

What followed for the next 130 odd runs was vintage Carnegie, flashing shots, calamitous running and two old unfit men attempting to regain a piece of their youth, until the skip run out Daughtrey, for which he is still sorry about.

This saw the entrance of Fred who made a tidy 24 despite the usual lack of effort from Sazz for running anything.

The skipper got out trying to launch a pie chucker towards Tim Peake. Diet Pike got out trying the same shot and we batted out the overs with Goody and Cheryl at the crease for a hugely respectable 176-7 and narrowly losing by 40 odd.
With 11 players I firmly believe we would have won.

Glory to the 2s, raise the flag!!!!!
On to Broomhall this weekend, let’s do it!!
