Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club Lost 6 wickets

Match report Dunfermline and Carnegie were put in to bat for the first game of the season against Tranent.

Skipper Wayne Sullivan despite organising his holiday to Australia around the cricket season had planned to be back in the country Saturday morning - messed this up by a day - so would not return to Sunday morning.

Selection issues in the week prior meant Dunfermline did not have out a full strength line up.

New recruit Jordan Davidon opened the batting with another new signing Mike Busby.

Jordan who played for Dunfermline a few years previously continued to play as he did prior to leaving - hitting the attack nicely around the ground.

Mike Busby was looking good but before he could muster a decent score was caught by bowler Paul for 8 - with the score on 40.

Miller came in looked good however his drive through the covers was brilliantly caught by Nicholson low down of the bowling of Ali - for 4 - score now 53 for 2.

In came Mushy Beg - who helped the score tick along with Jordan.

Jordan passed 50 however looked to be struggling with a pre match injury. His spell in the middle was ended for 56 when he was caught and bowled by Russell.

Murray Callan was brought to the crease - somewhat hungover - he came in looking like he meant business smashing the ball around as usual but was unfortunately caught off Russell for only 14.

Score now 131 for 4

Sanjay Rakshit brought out of retirement didnt last long falling for 2.

When Mushy was bowled for 44 the tail collapsed with the last five wickets falling for 6 runs.

A poor score of 143 was mustered on a good artificial track. This was never likely to be enough and the weakness in batting in the tail was evident.

D&C opened the bowling with Strange and Petrie and dropped catches were the order of the day.
Callen dropped one of the first ball - Miller then dropped a difficult chance at cover - Strange dropped one - Jordan dropped one and the list is endless - I think 10 were counted in total.

Khan and Ali were just teeing off like it was 20/20 cricket - and after 8 overs 60 runs were on the board.
It took the introduction of stand in skipper Mathew Howis to dislodge Ali for 41 caught behind.

Then no further inroads until Mike Busby got Ali caught by Callen for 47. Howis bowled Fahim and Arlaf for low scores but Russell and Gohar easily hung on the get Tranent over the line.

Poor bowling from D&C all around apart from Howis who was on a good line and length. Poor catching with 10 drops and probably attacking too long in the field and not protecting the boundaries - but the big issue was the poor batting with no-one down the order taking responsibility for their wicket losing 5 quickly for just 6 runs.

With the return of the skipper next week here's hoping selection issues and team performance improve.
