Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club 1st XI v Falkland 2's on Sat 11 Apr 2015 at 12.30
Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets

Match report A historic day - the first match played following the merger of Dunfermline Carnegie Cricket Club and Dunfermline Cricket Club.

Falkland were the visitors for the first match.

Falkland won the toss and elected to bat.

D Chambers and G Chambers opened for Falkland on a very showery day. And VERY cold day.

The bowling for Dunfermline started with Usman Saleem bowling the first over and Ian Leggat the second.

Inzi started off well only going for one in the first over. Ian then took the first wicket for the new club. G Chambers being bowled for 0.

Inzi was bowling well from the other end and was getting false shots out of the batsman.

In his second over he should have had two wickets.

President Rich Barclay gets the honour for the first drop of the season much to Alan Leitch's amusement dropping a dolly at midwicket followed shortly by Sazz Khan dropping a catch at point in the same over.

Inzi did finally get his wicket when Barclay held a good catch in the fifth over off C May who was out for 9.

D Chambers and C Bell were at the crease now.

Skipper Miller ringed the changes in the 9th over bringing into the attack Gareth Coles.

Gareth was straight on the money and in his third ball dangerman Bell edged the ball to second slip where Miller at first slip flew full length to his right to make an excellent one handed grab.
This brought Adam Ferguson to the crease - and Gareth got the honours of bowling the first wicket maiden for the newly merged club.

Brian Brown was brought into the attack at the other end.

Chambers and Ferguson started to put on a partnership and looked solid facing of the threat of Brown and Coles.

Then into the attack came fast ball spinner Sazz Khan and playing his first ever game of cricket Irishman Bryan Keenan.

It was Bryan who took the next wicket as with his 3rd ball he trapped Chambers LBW in front of the stumps. First ever over bowling and Bryan had a wicket!
Chambers gone for a well worked 26.

Falkland skipper Wayne Sullivan came into bat to a guard of honour.

Sully would have been out for a very low score had Rich Barclay his catching hands on but unfortunately Rich dropped another dolly at Mid wicket (not really a dolly this time).

Bryan Keenan could have had his second wicket but he also dropped a caught and bowled chance from Wayne.

Wayne was dropped a third time by Brian Brown of the bowling of Leitch before he reached 55 and retired.

Sazz Khan picked up his first wicket of the season bowling Adam Ferguson for 37.

Alan Leitch was then tossed the ball and quickly grabbed the scalps of Langlands for 0 (bowled) and Farmer for 4 bowled to end the day top wicket taker.

Jamie Lee bowled an over but unfortunately didnt take any more wickets.

Falkland had ended the day on 195 for 8.
Wayne Sullivan top scored with 55 NO (Dropped 3 times)
Extras 45 (I repeat EXTRAS 45)
Adam Ferguson 37.

Top bowler Alan Leitch 2 for 18.

Teas were had.
In the absence of Mrs Walley we all chipped together to bring the teas.

Of particular note:-
Harrys scones and Banana loaf = Excellent
Inzi's Mums Samosa's = Excellent (Nice n Spicy)
Sazz'z Pizza's = Excellent
In all got to be said a great all round effort as the regulars in the bar had plenty left to nibble on later in the evening.

Now back to the game.

Phil Daughtrey and Alan Leitch went out to opening the batting.

Phil got the first ever run for the club.

Unfortunately Phil was also the first out for the club as Langlands bowled him for 2.

Leitch and Barclay put on a solid stance before Barclay was bowled by Farmer for 6.

Iain Leggat joined Leitch but didnt last too long before being caught for 3 of the bowling of D Chambers.

Bryan Keenan went in at 5 for his first ever bat - and hung around quite a while before being bowled by G Chambers for 1.

Jamie Lee then joined Leitch.

Leich's fine inning finally ended when he tried to hit Farmer out the field but unfortunately gave Wayne Sullivan an easy catch at Mid On.

Miller then joined Lee batting at 7 and Lee and Miller held things together for a while before Paton took his scalp bowling Lee for 10.

Dunfermline and Carnegie were now getting a bit behind the run rate which meant this was an ideal time for Usman Saleem to come in for his first knock of the season.

Inzi took a quick single of a misfield to get off the mark. Inzi jumped up and down in celebration as he was so pleased to be out the duck pond.

Usman then set about the attack as Miller took a supporting role.

A few fours a big six and a couple more fours were hit as Inzi got the run rate firing upwards.

Inzi then went for one big hit too many as he was bowled by Langlands for 33. But a much needed quickfire innings was what the doctor order at this stage in the game.

Sazz Khan came out to join Miller.

Inzi decided to frighten the batsman and tell them they needed 22 to win off four overs (as the scoreboard was blowing in the wind and hard to read).

This was a run a ball required as the batsman thought although it seemed we had lost some overs somewhere.

Miller hit 3 fours in quick succession to qualm any fears.

It then turned out their was about 7 overs to go.

Sullivan came into the attack to try and get the wickets Falkland much needed but Miller smashed him for four in the fifth ball off the over to finish the game.

A fun day was had by all and it was great to get the first win under the belt in the first match even though it was a friendly.

Man of the Match went to Usman Saleem for his quick fire 33.
Thanks for Coming went to President Rich Barclay for his two dropped catches and only 6 runs.

Other points to note from the game:-
It was the first time I have seen a player ask the captain if he can leave the field to pay for Pizza's (Sazz Khan)
Many firsts today:-
First Club Run - Phil Daughtrey
First Wicket - Iain Leggat
First Wicket Maiden - Gareth Coles
First Four - Alan Leitch
First Six - Usman Saleem
First Drop - Rich Barclay
First two drops in a game - Rich Barclay
NO DUCKS - So that honour is still up for grabs - Alan Leitch/Sazz Khan!!
This could go on forever.........so ill stop there.

Much improvements are needed as the fielding was poor - and 45 extras says a lot about the bowling. But many positives on and off the field and we can look forward to our next friendly next weekend V Broomhall where some new faces should be in the line up as the pre season preparation continues.
