Drummond Trinitiy v Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 04 Jul 2015 at 13.00
Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club Lost by 8 wickets
Match report
With torrential rain on the morning of the match their was some doubt as to whether this game should go ahead or not.
On arriving at the pitch everything was wet and to get a fair game in there was no possibility of starting on time.
The start was delayed til 2.30 to allow the pitch and outfield to dry. The pitch was still damp - but the outfield and surrounds were in good condition.
It was agreed to start the game - and unfortunately captain Miller lost the toss and Carnegie were asked to bat first.
This was a bad toss to lose - as the wicket was damp and unpredictable and was only going to improve as the day went on - with the sun drying out the wicket.
Carnegie struggled to get the ball of the square with the ball skidding on.
The top three went cheaply - then Beg held the middle together a bit but it was still difficult to score.
Carnegie managed to muster 87 for 8 in their 30 overs which was in very difficult circumstances given there was nothing special about the opposition bowling.
Tea was had and on a now dry wicket it was advantage Drummond.
Carnegie opened with Beg and Strange - and the Trinity openers did find it tough to begin with - but were scoring at a quicker rate than was possible earlier in the day as the conditions improved.
Billy Strange did pick up a wicket with an edge caught by Beg then Sazz Khan got Thekencherry caught by Miller - but there were no real scares on a now good batting track for Trinity who finished the job in 23.2 overs.
Summary of the day - losing the toss cost the match. This was crucial. In the field we dropped far too many catches as usual. Culprits Leitch, Brown and Saleem (again).
Next up a visit to Kirkbrae next weekend.
