Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club 1st XI v Kirk Brae on Sat 09 May 2015 at 13.00
Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club Lost 148 runs
Match report
This wasnt the best day for Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket club.
Two call offs prior to Saturday meant the Carnegie were scratching around for players. Gordon Philp came to the rescue as did Duncan Ruzzak playing his first ever game of cricket.
Then on Saturday morning Pervez unfortunately had a family emergency which left Carnegie again down to 10 players. Tom Gibson injured stepped in to help out.
Dunf and Carnegie won the toss and elected to field on a wicket they werent sure would improve or not.
Opening the bowling was Matt Howis and Usman Saleem. The first 6 overs saw Kirk Brae off to a flyer.
It wasnt until Honeyford and Khan were brought into the attach that things slowed down.
Martin bowled Colvin for 24 with the score at 51, which Khan quickly followed dismissing Qazi. Bukes didnt last long as Honeyford bowled him for 5.
76 for 3 and Dunf and Carn were back in the game.
Gandhe and Sangster had other ideas though as they started to capitalise on some poor fielding and bowling.
Both batsmen were dropped on at lease two occassions.
Todays culprits being:-
Saleem x2
Leitch x1
Philp x1
Ruzzak x1
There was also one missed stumping opportunity.
The batsmen took all our gifts to their advantage and strung together a 90odd partnership before Gandhe was caught by Daughtry of the bowling of Brian Brown.
Blake then put on a partnership with Sangster before Blake was caught in the deep by Honeyford (at the second attempt) off the bowling of Usman Saleem.
Gordon Philp finally got Sangster out bowled in the final over bowled for 69.
Duncan Ruzzak had a brilliant run out attempt in the final over with a direct hit - which was out to everyone barring the umpire - which cost Carnegie a point at the end of the day.
The rain affected innings closed (we were off for an hour) with Kirk Brae scoring 250 for 6 in 45 overs.
Tea was had. Mrs Walley had done yet another marvelous job.
Philp and Honeyford opened the batting in the chase.
Dunfermline and Carnegie got off to a dreadful start losing Honeyford for 1, Philp for 5, Miller for 2 and Leitch for a Pond entry.
Phil Daughtry and Matt Howis did however rescue the score from 8 for 4 and got Carnegie to 49 before Howis was caught out for 22.
Daughty then fell for 17 shortly after.
Saleem started playing some big shots and got the scoreboard ticking along but went through partnerts of Ruzzak 1, Khan 14 and Brown DUCK POND before he threw his wicket away for 33 leaving Gibson not out on 2.
This was a very downbeat performance - which started badly with a depleted line up - fielding was very poor meaning we were chasing 250 as opposed to 150 which it would be more likely to have been if the catches were taken.
Heads were down when we started to bat as the score on that wicket was already too high due to our incompetence in the field and as such we were never in the race.
4 wickets fell quickly before Daughtry and Howis restored some pride - then Saleem did some hitting to make the score slightly more respectable.
Thanks for Coming - voted by himself Alan Leitch for his duck pond entry and drop.
Man of Match - Duncan Ruzzak who performed well on his debut. Martin Honeyford would have been in the running if it werent for his low score as would Saleem if it werent for his below par bowling performance when it mattered.
Fingers crossed for less call offs next week.
