Return to Cricket
Dunfermline & Carnegie Comets
When will the cricket sessions start?
It is hoped to start sessions for the Comets on Friday 3rd July with an 18.30 start.
Who should attend?
All players who played cricket in 2019 and over the winter in the Fife Indoor League.
Could all parents contact the appropriate person by Tuesday 30th June to inform us as to your son/daughters playing intentions.

We require numbers in order to plan the first session.
We envisage, based upon the numbers, practices based around small groups of players (4-6) similar in age and ability. We will make use of the large amountof space at McKane Park to
reduce risk while at the same time encouraging social interaction amongst players.
We may need parental involvement in coaching if numbers are too high. May mean working as a household.
A great deal of emphasis has been placed by the Scottish Government on the psychological effects of isolation during the pandemic and initially our sessions will attempt to assess the situation.
We envisage as the summer progresses more emphasis on developing skills. However, it is our intention not to rush the process and to consolidate rather then expand the sessions.
Whether we play matches or not is dependent on how the general situation develops.
Responsibilities
The club has responsibilities for the safety of the youngsters.
We have carried out a risk assessment. The club has already carried out work on social distancing in the clubhouse and the provision of sanitisers and soap. The advice given by Cricket Scotland is that 'toilet facilities can be opened if the venue wishes and that appropriate routines are put in place and soap and sanitiser is provided.' We will encourage players to be prepared not to use the toilet but we feel the availability of toilets is essential.
We also have a responsibility for the equipment used at the practices. This is a complicated situation. Ideally every player should have their own equipment and be responsible for its own use. No sharing. This will apply to those using the hard ball. Players cannot share gloves, pads and helmets. CS are less strict about the use of equipment but in our situation NO SHARING is essential. It is advised that each player should use thei rown ball and mark it appropriately.
Initially with many younger players we will make use of Kwik Cricket equipment which can be sanitised after/during any session. We are awaiting further guidance on use of equipment from Cricket Scotland.
We may need 'Covid Monitors' until we are confident rules are being followed .
Please make use of ample parking space at McKane.
This letter is only an outline of the present situation. I have tried not to overcomplicate the information but as a result will have gaps in the information which will only come to light if the gaps are highlighted by parents.
Please contact the club through the normal channel that you use.
Steve, Alan, Martin and myself had a final meeting on Friday at the clubhouse. It was very useful in increasing our awareness of possible problems .We cannot cover every eventuality. We can just try to eliminate problems as far as we can.
